Accessing sexual health services
January 2022 - Service Update
Direct appointment booking has recommenced. This means patients can be booked into face to face appointment slots without the need of a telephone triage/ call-back to assess needs.
It is important to note that as we manage and respond to the changing impact of the pandemic, clinic appointments are limited and waiting times will be longer for routine care. Our team are working hard to support you. Patient and staff safety remains our top priority. Clinics are running by pre booked appointment only.
The appointment booking line :- 0300 123 5474, open 8am – 6pm Monday to Friday.
Face to face appointments can be provided 08.00am – 6pm Monday to Friday at St Catherine’s Health Centre *subject to availability. Telephone consultations and call-backs will also be in operation from 8.00am - 6pm if and when required.
Our waiting areas will be configured to support social distancing , if at peak times we feel waiting rooms are at full capacity , we may ask you to wait in an alternative area until we are ready to see you.
It is important you read our guidance on attending a face to face appointment.
Please always consider if an appointment at clinic is necessary - we provide a range of remote care and self care options. See information below

If your pill runs out within days, urgent prescription ordering is available using local pharmacy services via NHS 111. See emergency prescription service .
If you require a new LARC or a replacement LARC procedure (insertion, replacement or removal of coils or implants) when you call to book you may be placed on a waiting list as we manage high demand. Each case will be assessed individually.
Some Wirral GP's also offer LARC services in partnership with us - see our list here for those who offer LARC to their own patients , and those who will see patients registered with any practice in Wirral GP Services in the Community - Sexual Health Wirral You can book directly with the practice , more information is available on the link.
Even if your GP surgery is not on our website list they may still provide coils and implants to their own patients independently, and waiting times may be shorter. Call your own surgery to enquire.
This is available for free from a range of Wirral pharmacies who supply it from their community premises in partnership with our service. Many are offering telephone consultations and collection. More information can be found at Pharmacy Services.

Young person clinics at Brook Wirral (Aged 19 and under)
We are currently arranging to see people in our clinic ONLY following a telephone assessment with one of our Brook Wirral team
Face to face appointments will only be allocated following a telephone assessment. This enables us to provide care to those most in need of sexual health or contraception services and reduce the amount of people in the waiting room.
We are currently only operating our clinic from our central location: Brook, 14 Whetstone Lane, Birkenhead CH41 2QR
Telephone assessments are provided during Brook opening hours:
Monday to Thursday 3pm - 6pm
Friday 3pm - 5.30pm
Saturday 1.15pm - 3.30pm
We advise that you call us on 0151 670- 0177 during these times and where possible as near to us opening as you can so that we can allocate you a face to face visit on the same day if required.
Please do not turn up to clinic unless you have called us in advance and spoken to a clinician. We will be unable to see you as an unplanned walk in patient.
If you call 0151 670 0177 before 3pm or outside of any of the above times, you will reach an answerphone where you can leave a message and one of our team will contact you. If you feel your need is more urgent and you need help sooner please call our Sexual Health Wirral line on 0300 1235474. Phone lines are open 8am - 5pm Monday to Friday.
